Tears of a Tiger Questions Essay After the tragic accident, Andy isnt treated well by the people not close to him at school. Some people don’t talk to him, others make rude comments. There are even some who won’t even look at him in the halls. Everyone has the right to express their own opinion; however, they should look at the situation more carefully before judging. It was Andy’s fault because he should not have been drinking and driving but, it was not intentional for Rob to die. 2. After the tragedy, death takes main focus in Andy’s life.While all of Andy’s friends eventually get over the death of their friend, Andy does not move on. He continues to close up more and more and just lets everything overwhelm him. He does go back into basketball as soon as he is allowed to. His grades also continue to slip. He feels this is the way to continue his life because all the blame is on him so it no longer matters. 3. Many things happen after the tragedy that leads to the gradual decline and loss of control in Andy’s life. Andy has agreed to continue his sessions at a therapist’s office.These are to help him open up and get him back to normal as much as possible to move on from the accident. However, after a while he fools the therapist and his parents and teachers into believing that he is finally moving on from the accident. He doesnt hang out with his friends much anymore, and when he does he doesnt talk much about anything. After his break up with Keisha, he moves on past her and doesnt feel the need to talk to her anymore. His family and friends cannot help Andy, because he closes up with his friends and makes his parents think he is getting better and does not say anything to them. 4.Andy’s final decision is seen as a coward’s way out because instead of dealing with the accident and living through it and getting past it, he decides to take his life so he does not have to live with it any longer. It affects many people in his life. A) His parents now have to deal with the loss of a kid and worry about how it will affect their other son. His parents get a divorce and live in separate houses and his mother cries all the time. B) His brother Monty now has to go through life remembering what happened to his older brother. He has to grow up remembering his brother committed suicide and he has to learn to live with that.C) Keisha, his ex-girlfriend, must wonder if there was another reason why he did it. She broke up with him shortly before he decided to kill himself. DE) Rhonda and Tyrone both cannot believe what he did. They are both upset that he chose to kill himself instead of getting over the past. F) B. J. was always good friends with Andy. He looked up to Andy and admired him. He continues to pray for him hoping he realizes what he did was wrong. G) Gerald is very upset with Andy. He gets beat every day and hasnt backed out of life yet. White (Teaching and Assessing Writing) In retrospect, I fail to remember consistent writing practices or writing assignments in English class (or otherwise) as a student in middle or secondary school. Luckily my love for and skill at creative and critical writing was encouraged by my parents and has remained at the heart of what I have chosen to pursue as a career. However, students whose writing is not only discouraged but is not treated fairly and properly in terms of evaluation have few options: to begin to regard writing as frivolous and unimportant; to remain underdeveloped in the areas of mechanics let alone harnessing of creativity and stylistic technique. Evaluation, as does actual instruction of writing, remains underdeveloped as well. Tension lingers between teachers who either are intimidated by evaluation processes or reject too rigidly structured models and the necessary aspect of not only teaching students how to write but teaching writing as a process which, in the end, requires assessment. Ultimately what has been absent in the past and is lacking still is agreed upon (by teachers, administrators, and test practitioners) theory and practice of sound writing programs and evaluation measures. â€Å"White like Me† The film, â€Å"White Like me† is presented by author Tim Wise. I believe Tim’s main purpose for this film is to explain how white privilege damages people of color more than society is lead to believe. Also how damaging it can be to white people as well and how racial privilege shapes the lives and outcome of most colored Americans when it comes to institutions such as education, employment, housing, criminal justice, and healthcare. When it comes to prejudices, discrimination and segregation of minority’s and blacks in the U. S. , I believe the cause is racial profiling.For example, Wise talks about how black and Latino males are three times more likely than white males to have their cars stopped and searched for drugs; even though white males are four and an half times more likely to actually have drugs on them when they are stopped by police officers. Wise also asked law enforcement officers â€Å"What’s the first thing you think when you see a young black or Latino male driving a nice car in your neighborhood? † the officers responded, â€Å"drug dealer. † Then Wise asks again, â€Å"What’s the first thing you think when you see a young white male driving the same type of car in the same neighborhood? and the officers responded, â€Å"Spoiled little rich kid, daddy probably bought him a car. † The fact that these officers base their decisions on an individual’s race or ethnicity in whether to engage in enforcement is racial profiling. Wise continues to talk about The Fair Housing Act, which was passed in 1968; but the highest number of discrimination complaints based on race was in 2006, 38 years later. Wise brings up a point about how the media often reports individual hate crimes but rarely do they report on ‘systematic and institutionalized injustice,’ for example, between 1991 and 2000, there were almost one million black people in the U.S. who died because of insufficient healthcare, but it never received any media coverage. When wise says â€Å"insufficient healthcare† he refers to colored people being moved to areas with bad incomes and living near harmful toxics and if they had only been white and living in a suburban area they would have not died. According to wise, the average white family in America has 12 times the accumulated net worth of the average African American family, and eight time the accumulated net worth of the average Latino family. I believe Tim Wise main idea for this film is to let America now that racism is still alive today and is not something of the past. It is an issue we should think about every day and not pretend that it doesn’t exist. Also that white denial is a very real term and whites are in fact in denial about being judgmental towards other races to a point where it can affect colored people’s lively hood. I personally thought the speech was very well-articulated and t hought-provoking. He showed examples of institutionalized racism such as housing inequalities and gives a bit of the history of what he called â€Å"White Privilege. I found it interesting how he showed the housing discrimination that occurs among minorities. Walking away from this film I feel like I’ve learned the importance of racial awareness and try to remember that racism is in fact still around today.
